High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • Our highly qualified and dedicated teachers deliver differentiated, explicit teaching tailored to meet students’ individual learning needs.
  • Our staff engage in ongoing professional learning to refine their approaches and enhance student outcomes.
  • We offer safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.
Across our school
  • Our highly successful sporting teams participating in gala days, with talented students supported to attend representative trials and selection duties. We collaborate with neighbouring small schools to form competitive squads.
  • Our students actively engage in the Ellalong Film Festival, showcasing creativity and technical skills.
  • Transition programs support students moving into enrichment classes at high school, ensuring continuity of learning and growth.
  • We proudly present performances in Starstruck and have a Choir, and Dance Group promoting artistic expression and teamwork.
  • Transition activities are designed to assist students in adapting successfully to new learning phases, fostering resilience and confidence.
  • We support students to develop leadership skills through structured opportunities, fostering confidence and responsibility.

We also celebrate the high performance achievements our students pursue beyond school, such as cattle parading, dirt bike competitions, boat racing, and equestrian sports, recognising and valuing diverse talents and interests.

Across NSW

Our students participate in state-wide opportunities including:

  • The Premier’s Spelling Bee promotes our students’ vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.
  • The Premier’s Debating Challenge helps our students to build logical arguments and confidence in public speaking.
  • The Public Speaking Competition encourages students to confidently articulate their ideas, engage with diverse perspectives, and develop persuasive and entertaining speaking skills.
  • Opportunity Class Placements for selected Year Five students, providing accelerated academic pathways.
  • Film by the Vines, offering a platform for creative storytelling and media skills development.
  • Our talented athletes proudly represent our school, zone, region, and state through the PSSA pathways.
